A lesson, not a boat ride

Most people who want to try wakesurfing in Englewood run into the same wall. A private charter is the right way to do it but it is a few hundred dollars before you know whether you even like standing on a board, and nobody rents a wake boat with a proper wave on it. So the thing never gets tried.

Saturday Sessions are the way around that. One seat, $149, four hours on the same boat with the same boards and the same coaching a private charter gets. You just share the morning with up to five other riders.

Captain ET is a former professional skimboarder and has coached hundreds of first-timers. Most of them are up and riding the same day. That is not a sales line, it is what the wave behind an H22 does for you when somebody is telling you where to put your weight.

How the morning goes

9:00 AM at the ramp

Meet Captain ET at 1000 S McCall Rd in Englewood. Look for the black and teal Heyday H22. Everyone aboard, quick safety rundown, then out to flat water.

First sets

Boards come out and people start going. If you have never done it, you go early while the water is glass and you have the most patience for it.

Ride, rest, repeat

The boat works in sets. You ride, you sit down, you watch somebody else and pick up what they are doing wrong, then you go again. Four hours gives everyone several real turns.

1:00 PM back at the dock

Boat traffic is building by then anyway. Most people leave sunburnt, sore in a good way, and texting Captain ET about a private charter.

What it costs

One seat
$149
To hold it
$49
On the day
$100

Boards, vests, ropes, coaching and fuel are all in the $149. Pay $49 now and $100 when you show up, or pay the whole thing up front and owe nothing on the day. Ice water is aboard. Bring a cooler with anything else you want to drink, it is a four hour morning, and save the beer for after you are off the board.

Six seats go first come first served and the booking page shows how many are left on each date.

Upcoming dates

Sessions run every other Saturday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, out of Englewood.

Who turns up to these

A mix. People on vacation in Englewood or on Manasota Key who want to do one thing they have never done. Locals who have watched boats pulling surfers down Lemon Bay for years. Teenagers whose parents bought them a seat. Snowbirds who skate or surf back home and want the winter version. Nobody is the only beginner, because the whole boat is built around beginners.

Bring sunscreen, a towel, a change of clothes and sunglasses with a strap. Everything else is on the boat.

Questions people ask

It is the reason it exists. First-timers are the whole point of the morning, and most people are up and riding the same day. Captain ET coaches from the boat, the wave behind the Heyday H22 is about as forgiving as it gets, and you are learning next to other people doing the same thing rather than being the only beginner on a private charter.
$149 a seat for four hours, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Boards, vests and ropes are included, along with the coaching and the fuel. You pay $49 to hold the seat and $100 on the day, or pay the whole thing up front and owe nothing when you show up.
Every other Saturday, starting December 5 2026, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM out of 1000 S McCall Rd in Englewood. The booking page lists the live dates and shows how many seats are left on each one. A session runs whether or not all six seats sell, so a date you book is a date that happens.
Six riders maximum, plus Captain ET. That is small enough that everybody gets real time behind the boat and real coaching instead of waiting in a line of twelve.
Plenty. The boat works in sets, so you ride, you rest, you watch other people and pick things up, then you go again. Four hours with six riders gives everyone several turns, and the water on a Saturday morning is the flattest of the week before the traffic builds.
No. Phase Five boards in every size are on the boat along with vests and ropes. Bring a board if you own one you love. Otherwise bring sunscreen, a towel, a change of clothes and whatever you want to drink. Ice water is aboard, and nobody rides after drinking.
You wear a vest the whole time, so you float whether you swim well or not. Wakesurfing is easier on the body than it looks because the rope comes out of your hands once you are up and the boat is only doing about eleven miles an hour. Tell Captain ET about anything he should know and he will work around it.
Yes, book a private wakesurf charter instead. Those start at $500 for two hours for up to six people and run any day, not just alternate Saturdays. If you want all six Saturday seats for your own crew, text Captain ET and he will set it up.
If Captain ET calls it off for weather you move to the next session or take a full refund, your choice. He makes that call as early as he can and texts everyone on the boat.

Rather have the boat to yourself?

Then book a private wakesurf charter. Same boat, same coaching, your group only, any day of the week, from $500 for two hours. Wakesurf is also the one charter Captain ET will trailer to you, up to two hours from Englewood. If you would rather be on the water without a board, there is the dolphin and wildlife tour, a Day on the Bay, and a sunset cruise.

A seat also makes a decent present. Gift certificates start at $50 and come off whatever they end up booking.

Six seats, every other Saturday
